  • Our story

    Founded in 1465 under Duchess Isabella of Portugal, the Dominican monastery grew to become one of Brussels' most prestigious cloisters. Banished, bombarded, and rebuilt across three centuries, it endured conspiracies, revolution, and war—before its last friars were expelled in 1796 and the building razed.

  • Jaques-Louis David

    In 1816, exiled French painter Jacques-Louis David made Brussels his home, living on Leopold Street where the hotel now stands. The façade of his former home remains part of the building today. His final masterpiece, painted here in 1824, hangs today in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts.
